Is the Obama administration playing politics with public safety when the Secretary of Transportation tells owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving the vehicles and gettign them fixed while not warning the public about the Government owned Pontiac Vibe. The Pontiac Vibe has a sticking accelerator problem and is being recalled but GM doesnt know how many cars are affected

The Pontiac Vibe crossover is included in Toyota Motor Corp.’s recall of sticking accelerators. Also included is the Vibe’s sister model, the Toyota Matrix. In addition, the latest recall of 2.3 million cars due to a faulty pedal design also includes 2009-10 Pontiac Vibes, according to GM spokesman Alan Adler.

GM said that it still doesn’t know exactly how many cars are affected.

WASHINGTON – Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving the vehicles and get them fixed.

Centrist Notes: How about warning the public to stop driving the Pontiac Vibe that has a sticking accelerator problem.

LaHood’s warning came Wednesday in testimony before a House Appropriations subcommittee on transportation. LaHood says his advice to owners is to "stop driving it. Take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it."

Toyota’s most recent recall in the United States affects 2.3 million vehicles with the potential for sticking gas pedals.
