The gubernatorial game for Michigan was already on in 2010 because the current Democratic Governor who is the defending champ from 2006 is term-limited and the pre-season favorite, Lt. Gov John Cherry is on the sidelines. Lt. Gov. Cherry is a fine and respected man who is on the politically injured reserve list for the gubernatorial game and will have to watch it on the sidelines this year. This is quite the shame because the independents were rooting for him to run and even had an ad ready for the political playoffs known as the primaries.
Democratic Ad for Michigan Gubernatorial Race ‘A Blast From The Past’
The Michigan Democratic party needs to play defense and counter the ad that Rick Snyder is running on the most watched media event of the year which is the Superbowl. What will the ad from GOPer look like from Rick Snyder ? That is the $2.3m self-funded question.
In 1984, an ad ran just 1 time on SuperBowl Sunday. The ad was 30s in length and it shattered the myths and lies of the competition of the day that was so dominant in prevailing. The ad launched a cultural and technological revolution for what was a no-name recognition brand at the time. Will the ad that is being run by GOP candidate Rick Snyder on Superbowl Sunday also launch a political revolution with the electorate of Michigan?
This Centrist is of the belief that the message that Rick Synder for Gov. will show on Sunday will not only resonate with the independents of Michigan who are anti-incumbent but also with those who want to break the broken mold of old in Lansing that is dominated by name-recognizable, term-limited career politicians who are more partyline talk than walk when it comes to transforming Michigan.
Michigan has created and produced innovations and ideas that have litterally transformed the globe and crushed the competition. The heart and soul of Michigan innovation is listening and waiting for someone to step up and throw one big transformation hammer at Lansing in 2010. Lets hope that in the start of this campaign season that Rick Snyders ad is a hammer on Super Sunday that returns Michigan back to the future of economic growth thru innovation. Here is this Centrist’s take on how that might work,
The Michigan Democratic Party (MDems) will immediately respond in kind to the message that Rick Snyder runs on Superbowl Sunday. It is a given. The MDEM’s are the reigning Gubernatorial champs of the last 2 election cycles.

In 2006, the MDems effectively convinced the every electorate in Michigan that didnt reside in a suburb, that Devos was not only Big Business Red but shades of UPS Brown who shipped those already recessionary scarce jobs in Michigan to China. In effect, Devos was the color of unemployment .

What will the MDEM’s use as a message in 2010 to convince the electorate that Rick Snyder is also the color of unemployment?. Michigan certainly is looking blue these days both statisically -

and rhetorically blue as in tired or hold our collective breath and waiting for expansive government to solve economic problems.
Tired of being a hue of blue from promises unkept or broken by Lansing.
The MDEM’s have not officially announced a candidate to succeeed Gov. Granholm. The primaries are six months away and the MDEM’s need to put forth a candidate that is not tied to Granholm or her record over the last 8 years. But alas, much like Lansing has operated over the last 8 years the MDEM’s seem to have candidates that 1) Are operating in ‘exploratory mode’ (whatever the heck that means) or 2) Awaiting for a blessing from the WH for a candidate that will protect Obama’s ‘investments’ in the state and continue the dependency on Washington to bailout auto and government with billions in dollars that come with more than a modium of conditions and controls by Washington.
The message that Rick Snyder runs on SuperBowl Sunday will not only benefit the electorate of Michigan in the process of making an informed decision in August and November of 2010 but it may move the MDEM’s further along in selecting a candidate and getting their message out where it can be contrasted against the Republicans.
But until the Democrats field an ‘official candidate into the political ring then please feel free to engage in rockem sockem politics at this link on the Mattel site. You may find it as a way to vent your political frustration until August. Link to Michigan Red vs Blue boxing
Who does the Centrist think that the MDems put forth in the Michigan gubernatorial race and what will the message be. Here are some prelimary ideas on how that might go:
